Full name

Gary Cranson

Age

41

Job title

Director of Astaura Interior Design Consultancy

Which actor would play you in a movie about your life?

The guy from Trainspotting... Ewan McGregor… I don’t know why!

How long have you worked at Ast?

Only since October, but I’ve worked with Mark Aston in the past.

What’s your most unusual talent?

I don’t know! I don’t think I have any... it’s definitely not licking my elbow.

Walk us through a typical day at work

I start early, around 5 or 6am, normally answering emails, designing or making calls to tradesmen and suppliers. Then I'll have breakfast and do more designing and arrange meetings with clients. Then I might have meetings on site where I’d be involved in design briefs, surveying buildings and doing presentations about interior design schemes, materials, furniture, colour schemes and so on. I have lunch around 12 and then do more designing, scopes of work etc. It changes day to day… I could be designing all day or in meetings or in London.

Do you have any strange phobias?

Skating on ice - like on a frozen lake.

What’s the best thing about working for Ast?

Ast is a vibrant company. Everyone is always really up for it and very motivated.

What was your favourite toy as a child?

Toy cars, like Hotwheels. No what am I talking about… Technic Lego!

What inspires you at work?

Walking into my sketches when everything is finished. Seeing the client’s reactions to your complete designs and the end product.

Would you rather have a dragon, or be a dragon?

Ooohh… Have a dragon.

What’s been your greatest achievement to date?

My daughter, she’s 8 years old.

Tell us two truths and a lie…

1. I am hardworking

2. I am loyal

3. I am not competitive.
