Fantastic fifth for AstSigns youngster

Date: 01-07-2009

Nathan Aston scored a stunning result in the Formula Kart Stars championship at the weekend, achieving his best finish of the season so far to take fifth place in the A Final at his home circuit, Rowrah.

The 11-year-old AstSigns karter put his local knowledge to good use as he produced a string of fine results over the meeting before racing to fifth in the final in his Tooley Motorsport run kart. Aston produced two scintillating performances in his heats, moving up from 22nd to 10th in one and 16th to sixth in another, proving he really was on top form amongst the much more experienced field of young karters.

Another strong result saw the youngster take third in the B Final after having led for five laps and again advancing two places from his grid position. But the best was still to come in the main final of the weekend where Aston took on 26 other young aces. Starting from second last on the grid, Aston showed the remarkable improvements that he has made this season to scythe through the field finishing in fifth place.

It was a huge weekend of success for the Tooley Motorsport team with Aston’s team-mate Matthew Graham taking overall honours in the final – with improved performances from the pair of young stars helping to deliver the best results of the season so far.

Aston, who is competing in the FKS Cadet class for the first time this year, had a previous best result of 24th place in the third round of the championship at Glan-y-Gors.

The Formula Kart Stars Championship was established in 1996 by McLaren boss Ron Dennis to provide a path for young drivers who wish to pursue a career in motorsport. Today it is supported by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone and has been the proving ground for international motorsport superstars like Lewis Hamilton.

AstSigns karter Nathan Aston said:

“I am really pleased with the result today as it shows how much I have learned over the season and the improvements that I have made since the start of the year. Rowrah is my home circuit, so I have more experience here than some of the other drivers and it was good to be able to use that today. A result like this is a big confidence boost for the rest of the season and I hope that I can keep it up for the next round.”
