Talent of 13 year old Aston on race track in Portugal
Date: 10-05-2011Nathan Aston, Cumbria’s karting hot-shot, delivered another determined performance at the second round of the World Series of Karting (WSK) Euro Series at Portimao in Portugal. The 13-year-old, who is the current British Cadet Champion, has stepped his competition up a gear this year and is racing amongst the world’s best young karters in a bid to get noticed by Formula 1 team bosses.
Aston’s KF3 class is seriously competitive – there’s 255 karters from 34 countries in the WSK this year all wanting to be first over the finish line. But, despite still learning the Portuguese track on his first visit, he delivered a series of top-10 finishes in the heats to qualify on the seventh row of the grid for the Pre-Final – which he duly finished in 15th and qualified for the Final.
However, in the Final, young Aston was forced into a spin after contact from another competitor on the opening lap. After damaging his steering, he could only manage 28th position.
But just making it into the Final on his first time at this track and against the world’s best was a major achievement and signals the talent that 13-year-old Aston possesses.
